Weekly Round-Up 9th-16th December

Alicante City FC continue their fine form

Alicante City FC continued their winning form on Saturday with a resilient 2-1 victory over A.D. Betis Florida “A” which included a dramatic last-minute winner and four ACFC academy graduates all in the starting line-up. Playing away from home, the scores were tied at 1-1 thanks to a goal from Igna for ACFC. In the dying minutes of the match, a poor clearance from the home side’s goalkeeper allowed Samu to be found in the box with a precision through ball and while some players might lash a desperate shot or go for personal glory, Samu brilliantly kept his composure to lift his head up and pick out Charly at the back post, who calmly slotted into the net to add another to his tally as the league’s top scorer.

These 3 points not only make it two wins on the trot but also epitomises the mental strength and determination of a team growing in confidence.

Under 23s unlucky in defeat

Alicante City FC U23s had a point to prove after being humbled the previous week and they did themselves justice and can be proud of their performance. Although succumbing to a 3-2 defeat, a young team composing of nine ACFC Academy graduates showed incredible fortitude to bounce back from a disappointing week and never backed down against a strong opposition. This courageous display demonstrates a real team unity amongst the players, who are all willing to fight for each other even when the odds are against them.

Christmas BBQ

For many cities around Europe, a Christmas dinner would compose of Xmas jumpers, Turkey and stuffing, and commonly hosted indoors. At ACFC Academy we have the luxury of beautiful, sunny weather in December meaning the guys were able to celebrate with a BBQ. Football is more than talent and glory. Team unity, inclusivity, and friendship could be considered just as important and benefits the team both on and off the pitch with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona and Arsenals “invincibles” under Arsene Wenger being prime examples that come to mind. These events at our Academy emphasises our model of both professional coaching and match experience, and an unforgettable experience for our players.
